Program S1 Falsafah dan Agama dan Program Magister Ilmu Agama Islam,

menyelenggarakan Kuliah Umum bersama Avi Abadi, Beshara, UK, sebagai

narasumber, yang insya Allah akan berlangsung pada:

Hari dan Tanggal: Kamis, 1 Desember 2016

Pukul: 13.00 WIB

Tempat: Ruang Granada, Kampus Universitas Paramadina, Jakarta.

Melalui surat ini, kami bermaksud mengundang Bapak serta seluruh staf pengajar Universitas Paramadina,

untuk turut menghadiri kuliah umum tersebut.

Adapun tema kuliah umum ini adalah:

“The Impassable Pass: The Heart as the Midpoint between the sacred and the

mundane in the teachings of Ibn ‘Arabi”

“That mountain pass you mentioned lies between the membrane and the inner

chamber of the heart, and it is that which prevents the heart from knowing.” These

words were addressed to the Shaykh al-Akbar, on a starlit night in the holy

precinct of the Ka’aba, by a young woman who “surpassed all the people of her

time in grace and culture, beauty and knowledge.”

This seminar aims to explore two questions:

o What is it that prevents the heart from knowing, or renders that

mountain pass impassable?

o Who, or what, is that young woman?

Sekilas tentang Avi Abadi: Avi Abadi telah menjadi student bagi Beshara School di

Skotlandia, UK, sejak pertengahan dekade 1970. Semenjak itu, beliau dengan tekun

mempelajari karya Ibn ‘Arabi secara intensif, seperti Fushush Al Hikam dan Tarjuman Al-

Ashwaq. Selama hampir empat dekade, Avi menjadi supervisor kursus intensif enam

bulan di Beshara School; dan beberapa tahun menjabat sebagai Director of Studies di

sekolah tersebut.

Tujuan utama kehadiran beliau di Indonesia kali ini adalah memfasilitasi kursus

Beshara SEA tanggal 3-11 Desember 2016 bertema “Wisdom of Spirituality in the Word

of Jacob”, dari buku Fushush Al Hikam karya Muhyiddin Ibn ‘Arabi.
